GRASTY LAUNCHES COUNCIL RUN

KEEP SLATE POLITICS OUT OF PORT MOODY

Longtime homeowner advocate John Grasty is running for Port Moody City Council to keep big-city slate politics out of local government.

Port Moody has a long tradition of electing independent councillors who answer to their neighbours. Grasty says organized slates now threaten that tradition.

“When councillors run on a slate, residents have to ask who they really answer to: voters, or the organization that got them elected,” said Grasty. “Port Moody doesn’t need Vancouver-style party politics. We need independent councillors who think for themselves and vote for what’s best for our community.”

Grasty says the city has already paid the price.

“During the Vagramov, Milani and Madsen years, division and bloc voting left us with a dysfunctional council. We can’t let that happen again.”

Grasty has advocated for residents for more than 25 years. He contributed to Port Moody’s seniors strategy, co-founded the Coalition of Leaky Condo Owners in 1999 and later served as president of the Consumer Advocacy and Support for Homeowners Society.

“City Hall belongs to the people of Port Moody, not to parties, slates or political machines,” said Grasty. “This election is about protecting our community’s character and keeping council accountable to the people who elect it.”

INDEPENDENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT. PORT MOODY FIRST.
